Director Communications, EU

Coinbase has built the world's leading compliant cryptocurrency platform serving over 30 million accounts in more than 100 countries. With multiple successful products, and our vocal advocacy for blockchain technology, we have played a major part in mainstream awareness and adoption of cryptocurrency. We are proud to offer an entire suite of products that are helping build the cryptoeconomy and increase economic freedom around the world.

There are a few things we look for across all hires we make at Coinbase, regardless of role or team. First, we look for signals that a candidate will thrive in a culture like ours, where we default to trust, embrace feedback, disrupt ourselves, and expect sustained high performance because we play as a championship team. Second, we expect all employees to commit to our mission-focused approach to our work. Finally, we seek people with the desire and capacity to build and share expertise in the frontier technologies of crypto and blockchain, in whatever way is most relevant to their role.

We’re looking for a strategic, hands-on marketing leader to build Coinbase’s go-to-market plan and marketing function for Europe. You will be in charge of crafting our product and marketing voices to fit with the European market and to differentiate Coinbase amongst competitors.

  • Establish and manage relationships with relevant media and influencers both directly where possible  and through local, in-country PR agencies
  • Manage PR agencies in countries throughout EMEA to manage Coinbase’s reputation and drive company priorities through tailored, local strategies
  • Drive measurable qualitative and quantitative impact on the perception of Coinbase and the crypto ecosystem among target audiences

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • 10+ years of communications or related experience
  • A native or have spent 5+ years living in Europe
  • Experience in media relations, executive communications, public affairs, and issues management
  • Fluency in discussing  financial markets and/or the technology industry and products, with a strong interest in gaining fluency in crypto
  • Worked collaboratively with cross-functional groups including Marketing, Product, Legal, and Public Policy
  • Excellent written and spoken communications skills with an ability to translate complex topics into smart content for a broad audience; demonstrative experience distilling complex policy or technology concepts into plain language;
  • Ability and interest in leveraging multiple formats including mainstream media, blog posts, Twitter, podcasts, and more to deliver a message
  • Strong intellect, a broad perspective, and the confidence to interact with a wide-range of topic experts within finance, tech and crypto.
  • Alignment with Coinbase values (clear communication, efficient execution, continuous learning, and positive energy). Humble, flexible, eager to learn.
  • Experience managing cross-functional stakeholder relations in fast-paced and ambiguous environments
  • Experience managing PR agencies in EMEA to carry out local strategies that meet global priorities
  • Lead multiple partners with competing priorities to drive growth across multiple regions concurrently

Nice to haves:

  • Fluency in crypto knowledge of the European crypto market
