About the Role

The ideal candidate will be a proven executive who leverages their consumer communications expertise to provide strategic advice, insights, and guidance to the company. You also need to have a deep passion for the mental wellness space, high creative acumen, and an excellent sense of what’s trending in the market in order to effectively communicate to our current and potential consumers. 

You will be working closely with and influencing Calm’s co-founders/CEOs, Management Team, and functional leaders. The ideal candidate can think through operational complexity and build an adaptive organization in order to meet business goals and will generate a deep understanding of Calm’s mission in order to operate as a strategic thought partner and successfully guide our global consumer messaging.

You must be a succinct communicator who takes a pragmatic and thoughtful approach to consumer communications. You know how to effectively prioritize the most important consumer messages globally by leveraging your team, agencies, and consumer insights to drive awareness and, ultimately, consumer engagement. The role requires a seasoned and adaptable candidate who is results-oriented, a strong writer and not afraid to roll-up their sleeves and dive into the work of building the messaging around the rapidly growing mental wellness industry and Calm as its leading player.


  • 10+ years of consumer communications and/or publicity experience 
  • Exceptional writing and story-telling skills
  • Global media contacts
  • Ideal (but not required) experience with public policy and government relations  
  • Experience coaching and influencing the senior-most levels of an organization - while respecting everyone at every level of the business
  • IQ/EQ balance that allows you to use data to inform your decisions and the insight to create deep connections across the business to get the job done
  • Proven experience and passion for developing consumer communications that engage current and existing consumers
  • Critical thinker who is comfortable with ambiguity 
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking in various formats
  • Proven leader, motivator, who is unafraid to roll-up sleeves and "lead from the front”


  • Build and lead a world-class consumer communications team, reputation, and messaging
  • Successful high-impact media placements and program strategy development
  • Coach and influence Calm’s co-founders/co-CEOs and Management Team on how to be effective communicators and spokespeople for Calm
  • Broaden the global awareness of mental wellness and Calm as its leading player
  • Develop and execute proactive and reactive communications programs regarding issues and litigation when necessary
  • Develop strong cross-functional partnerships across the organization
  • Building and communicating strategic insights about our global consumer base throughout Calm to educate our internal audience about what our core consumers are looking for
