Growth Marketing Manager

Growth Marketing Manager

Who we are

Our mission at Sourcegraph is to make it so that everyone can code, not just ~0.1% of the population. We help developers and companies with billions of lines of code create the software you use every day. In enabling more people to code, we believe we will create economic opportunity across the world and will drive progress that benefits everyone.

It’s an exciting time to join Sourcegraph. Our company is growing rapidly: we’ve experienced 4x year-over-year revenue growth with zero customer churn, and our $50M Series C from Sequoia has given us the opportunity to make big ambitious bets on our future. We have a huge market (every company that builds software) and massive opportunity (most developers haven't even heard of code search yet, but once you've used it, you can't live without it--just like Google web search). By continuing to hire exceptional people, we have the opportunity to make Sourcegraph one of the biggest technology companies in the world.

Why this job is exciting

To achieve our mission, we're looking for a Growth Marketing Manager to help grow our values-driven, all-remote team. Reporting to the Director of Demand Generation, you’ll be responsible for driving experimentation and innovation at each touchpoint within the customer journey. This could mean running tests designed to reduce friction between the website and product sign-up, finding unique ways to on-board new users, or dreaming up otherworldly ad campaigns. You’ll be doing this work alongside amazing colleagues in marketing, product, engineering, and operations and will live our ‘work as a team’ value every day. This is an opportunity to come into an organization where you have complete freedom (and responsibility) to take big swings. The impact you’ll make here will be huge. Here’s what it might look like:

Within one month, you will...

  • Be an active contributor to our cross-functional Growth working group
  • Understand our product and be able to communicate its benefits
  • Set your OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) with your Manager and develop an action plan to achieve them
  • Host recurring meetings with your primary collaborators and be well on your way to building strong relationships with your team
  • Understand your team’s current work and priorities and begin sitting in with other teams inside and outside of marketing to understand the same
  • Read Product Led Growth, if you haven’t already!

Within three months, you will...

  • Lead the cross-functional growth meeting
  • Complete at least two growth experiments and communicate results to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Be well on your way to documenting an experimentation plan for the back half of the year
  • Understand Sourcegraph’s product roadmap and have high-level proficiency in our products
  • Complete our sales training course

Within six months, you will…

  • Complete a handful of short-term and long-term experiments with your cross-functional team
  • Manage all experimentation plans from ideation through to post-mortem
  • Be developing a repeatable framework for intake, prioritization, execution, and sharing of growth projects
  • Regularly contribute cutting edge ideas and sharing best practices to accelerate product adoption and retention
  • Share results and their implications on the business along with thoughtful recommendations in how we adjust our efforts
  • See your work folding into our holistic marketing strategy as we begin FY23 planning

Within one year, you will…

  • Drive FY23 OKR planning for the marketing team
  • Emerge as a thought leader in the growth marketing space inside and outside of Sourcegraph
  • Release a growth playbook that drives our future experimentation
  • Feel a deep sense of belonging within your team and the company

About you

As the Growth Marketing Manager at Sourcegraph, you will be responsible for driving experimentation across all customer touchpoints to improve product trial, adoption and, ultimately, revenue. You are well versed in product-led growth best practices and understand that delighting our end-user is the best path towards revenue. You’d have a hard time bucketing yourself into “left” or “right” brain categories because you love applying the scientific method to trying out your wildly creative ideas.

In addition to being a thinker, you’re a doer. In this role, you will steer our cross-functional growth taskforce. This means day-to-day project management of the group alongside the very strategic work of ideating new experiments, vetting and prioritizing ideas based on potential impact on the business, and communicating the team’s output across the organization. Some might say herding cats comes naturally to you :)

  • You have a strong record of driving growth within the software industry and can provide samples and results from past experiments
  • You have a background in testing and optimization within a product-led growth organization
  • You enjoy analyzing program performance and are completely at home in a spreadsheet
  • You’re curious, creative, and personally passionate about cutting edge marketing practices - bonus points if you dissect conversion funnels for fun
  • You’re also adaptable, scrappy, and a quick learner
  • You are strategic and able to prioritize projects based on a variety of factors - and then execute
  • You have epic project management skills
  • You are able to present findings to leadership and cross-functional teammates to drive consensus
  • You can read a room and know how to distill the most important concepts to the audience you’re speaking to

Nice to haves:

  • You’ve been part of an organization’s journey towards product-led growth
  • You’ve worked in developer marketing or have a connection to the developer community
  • You have hands-on experience with Salesforce, Hubspot, and Google Analytics
  • You’ve executed a paid media campaign and email marketing program
  • You have built SEO strategies and even dabbled in content creation
